Introduction

Experience India in a unique way - visit Kolkata, Darjeeling and Assam to experience the rich history of the British Raj and the picturesque tea estates.

This exceptional tour is a journey through East India starting in Kolkata, the original capital of India during British rule, you will explore both the majestic landmarks and the fascinating local life - including an opportunity to learn some Bengali cookery with a resident family. The tour then moves to Darjeeling to ride on the famous narrow gauge toy train and to explore this famous hill station where the British fled to escape the summer heat in the foothills of the Himalayas. You will visit a tea plantation to see how the wonderful Darjeeling tea is grown and made and walk through the verdant gardens with the stunning backdrop of Mount Kanchenjunga. Finally we travel to Assam where you will visit Kaziranga National Park, riding on elephants to see the endangered one horned rhino - a rare sight. In amongst the tea gardens there will be time for independent exploration, trekking and relaxation.
