Day 3 : Dhaka

After breakfast, proceed for a full day to explore the sites of Dhaka and Sonargaon.

One of the oldest capitals of Bengal, Sonargaon is a collection of many villages and towns around 27 km away from Dhaka. Many of the old Hindu and Mughal buildings have been destroyed but Panam City is a fascinating abandoned neighbourhood of huge crumbling mansions slowly being reclaimed by nature.

After visiting Sonargaon, return to Dhaka for a boat ride on the river which will give you a real flavour of Bangladesh culture. Later, visit Parliament House, one of the famous national assembly buildings in the world. The assembly building received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1989.

Day 4 : The Rocket Paddle Steamer

After breakfast, visit Kawran Bazaar vegetable and flower market at Shahbagh - this is best done in the early morning. We will then visit fascinating Old Dhaka, which was once the centre of a major trading route known as the South West Silk Route. Walk along Shankharia Bazar or Hindu Street, which is lined with colourful shops and richly decorated buildings. Visit the Pink Palace on the banks of the river which was an important building during the division of Bengal. It is now a museum, with 23 galleries decorated with historical goods and photos. Spend some time wandering around the port at Sadarghat which is constantly bustling with activity. Continue to Bangshal Road (or Bicycle Street) which is famous for the manufacture of the brightly coloured panels that adorn local rickshaws. Take a rickshaw ride and visit the Star Mosque and Dakeshwari temple.

For lunch we highly recommend trying some of the fabulous mutton biryani at Haji Biryani restaurant. After lunch, visit tranquil Lalbagh fort, a Mughal period structure on the Buriganga River. Also visit Curzon Hall (means town hall), which was built as a Legislative House of the British Bengal Province.

Finally, board the famous Rocket Paddle Steamer at Saderghat for your overnight journey to Barisal.

Day 5 : Barisal

After arrival in Barisal, transfer and check into the hotel. After breakfast, we will proceed for a backwater river cruise from Swrupkathi to Bhimruli. The backwaters around Barisal are extremely beautiful and virtually untouched by tourism. At Swrupkathi, you will see the floating rice market on the river. The boat will then move towards Vimruli through a narrow canal, passing a number of timber shops on the bank. At Vimruli during the rainy season only, there is a wonderful seasonal guava floating market. You will be able to see the Guava gardens lining the canal from the boat . You will have the opportunity to spend some time with local school children here at the village school and take a walk around the village. Return to the hotel at the end of the cruise.

Day 6 : Barisal

Another day to explore the beautiful backwaters around Barisal. Today we will head to Atghar Kuriana floating market (local country boat market) and Banaripara floating market where locals who live in this river-laden part of Bangladesh come to buy and sell groceries without ever having to step off their boats. We will also visit Harta in Ujirpur to see the fish market.

In the evening, we will go to the sadarghat river terminal in Barisal to see the crowded boats from lower to upper deck. You will have a real idea about the river journey culture of Bangladesh here.

Day 7 : Sundarban National Park

After breakfast, drive to Mongla port to board your boat for two nights Sundarbans cruise. The Sundarbans are the largest mangrove forest on earth and a UNESCO world heritage site. En route visit another world heritage site, the impressive 60 domed Mosque at Bagerhat. We will also visit the Shrine of Khan Jahan Ali and the 9 domed Mosque.

Continue to Mongla and board the vessel. We spend the next two nights exploring the Sundarbans National Park by specially built cruise boat and smaller country boats. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park encompasses the largest block of coastal mangroves on the planet, and the forests are home to a huge range of flora and fauna. As we sail through the waterways passing mudflats and small islands, we search for crocodiles, deer and dolphins as well as watching many species of birds. We stop on several of the islands to explore the beaches and forests on foot, and if we are extremely lucky we may catch sight of a tiger or at least spot some fresh paw prints on the soft earth. The boat will anchor each evening, and we spend the nights on board in twin -share cabins with shared facilities.

Day 9 : Pabna

Today we will return to Mongla where we disembark from the boat. Drive to Narail by car ( approx. 4 hrs drive). We will then take a journey by boat for an otter fishing experience with local fishermen. Bangladesh is the only place in the world where fishermen still practice fishing with their trained otters. This tradition is almost 200 years old.

Return to the car and drive 4.5 hours (154 km) to the Pakshi resort in Kushtia.

Day 10 : Bogra

After Breakfast, drive for around 4:30 hours (155 km) to Somapura Mahavihara at Paharpur, a UNESCO World Heritage site containing the single largest Buddhist monastery in the world. This is one of the most well preserve archaeological sites of Bangladesh. En-route visit Mahasthangarh, the 3rd century capital of North Bengal and one of the earliest urban archaeological sites so far discovered in Bangladesh.

Continue the drive to Bogra and check in at your hotel for two nights.

Day 11 : Bogra

Today we will visit the chars on the outskirts of Bogra. "Chars" are large sandbank islands, created from silt deposits caused by huge and ongoing river erosion. An estimated one million people live on chars and are among the poorest and most vulnerable people in the country. Their homes are extremely susceptible to flooding and further river erosion and their lifestyle is very basic. Visiting the chars is a fascinating experience and the people are warm and friendly, but please be sensitive to the fragility of this land and its inhabitants.

Return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Day 13 : Srimangal

After breakfast drive 190km (5hrs approximate) to Srimangal — the Tea capital of Bangladesh. Check into the hotel.

Visit the Monipuri Tribal area in the afternoon and have a cup of seven or five layer tea on the way back to the hotel. Multi layer tea preparation is a special attraction of this Tea-City. Historically, Bengal was the terminus of the Tea Horse Road connecting the subcontinent with China's early tea-growing regions in Yunnan.

Day 14 : Comilla

After breakfast, drive to Lawachara National Park, the only rain forest in Bangladesh. Part of the movie 'Around the World in Eighty Days' was filmed in this forest. The almost extinct Ulluk ape, found in only four countries in the world, can be found in Lawachara Park. Spend 3 hours trekking into the jungle and visiting a Khashia tribal village.

Check out from the hotel and drive to Comilla which is about 4.5 hrs (180 km) journey from Srimangal.

Day 15 : Chittagong

In the morning visit a village near the hotel and Salban Buddhist Bhihara. Here you will see the ruins of the great Buddhist Bhihara, the museum and the half seated Buddha.

Drive to Chittagong (160 km and 3.5 hrs approximate), which is the second largest city in the country.

Day 16 : Cox's Bazar

After breakfast we will start our journey to the world’s longest unbroken sea beach at “Cox’s Bazar”. We will visit Ramu Buddhist Temple where there are several statues of the Gautama Buddha.

Check in to the hotel for two nights. Enjoy the sunset at the beach in the evening.

Day 17 : Cox's Bazar

Take an excursion by speed boat to Moheshkhali, the only hilly island of Bangladesh. We will also stop at Innani beach, an 18-kilometre-long sea beach in Ukhia Upazila of Cox's Bazar District. It has a lot of coral stone which looks green and alive in summer or in rainy season.

Return to the Ocean Paradise Hotel in Cox’s Bazar.

Day 18 : Bandarban

After breakfast, leave Cox’s Bazar for the hilly district of Bandarban. It is a 4 hrs (150 km) drive to Bandarban.

After arrival in Bandarban, check into the hotel.

After lunch, visit Nilachol tourist spot and the Golden temple. Drive 24 km to the second highest peak of the country, Chimbuk and then drive 15 km further to the 3,000 feet high, Nilgiri Peak to see the views and visit the tribal village. Return to the hotel.

Today we will drive towards Thanchi for a full day exploring different tribal villages. There are about 14 different tribes and innumerable tribal villages in Bandarban and it is interesting to understand the changes in their livelihoods from the hunting and gathering time to the present day.
