Enjoy a rickshaw ride at Chandni Chowk, winding through the labyrinthine lanes glimpsing tiny shops crammed with spices and trinkets. View the magnificent 17th century Red Fort and finally stop at Raj Ghat, the cremation ground of Mahatma Gandhi.

In New Delhi explore Humayun’s tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage site completed in 1572. Humayun was the second Mughal Emperor and this is the first example of a Mughal garden tomb. It is clearly an inspiration for later monuments including the Taj Mahal. Visit the 12th century Qutab Minar, which is the tallest brick minaret in the world, and an important example of Indo-Islamic Architecture. The superb buildings in this complex date from the onset of Muslim rule in India. Drive past the India Gate (war memorial), the president's residence - formerly the Viceroy's Palace, Parliament House and the Secretariat buildings - an interesting blend of the Victorian and 20th century architecture. Tue. 12 Nov 2019

Early morning sunrise visit to Taj Mahal, the greatest love story ever told. On the death of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, in wild extravagance, Shahjehan built her this memorial.  20,000 men laboured for over 17 years to build this wealth of white marble and precious stone. It really is astonishingly beautiful.

Return to the hotel for breakfast and later drive to Fatehpur Sikri. Located 40 kms from Agra, the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri was built by Emperor Akbar in 1569, in honour of the great Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti. Akbar used Fatehpur Sikri as his capital and the city was fully occupied for 14 years but slowly became deserted and ruined after Akbar left the city. Scarcity of water was the prime factor for the abandonment of this beautiful city. Visit the remarkably well-preserved, graceful buildings within the 'Ghost City' including the Jama Masjid, tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal Palace and other palaces that display the grandeur and splendour of the Mughal empire at the height of its power.
