Introduction

Bangladesh is a relatively undiscovered destination and all the better for it in our opinion. If you are up for an adventure and appreciate experiencing the authenticity of a country and its culture, this trip could be just what you are looking for.

Outside of the major cities, Bangladesh is a lush, beautiful country that relies heavily on its agriculture and farming. The people are warm and welcoming, the roads are surprisingly good on the whole and hotel facilities are decent - although don't expect anything 5 star or boutique outside of Dhaka.

This 3 week suggested tour covers all the main highlights of Bangladesh including atmospheric Old Dhaka, the ancient capital of Sonargaon, an overnight journey on the famous Rocket Paddle Steamer, two days cruising through the idyllic backwaters around Barisal - if you thought the backwaters in Kerala were special, wait until you experience this! You'll then take a two night cruise through the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world and home to over 400 Royal Bengal Tigers, go fishing with otters with local fishermen and see the impressive 60 domed mosque at Bagerhat. You'll also visit some of Bangladesh's other notable historical sites including the largest Buddhist monastery in the world at Paharpur and Mahasthangarh, the third century capital of North Bengal. Meet some of the local people living a primitive rural lifestyle when you visit the chars, islands in the river formed by sediment from erosion. Then, head to Srimangal, the tea capital of Bangladesh and try some famous seven layer tea before continuing to Lawachara National Park for a jungle trek and visit to tribal village. Spend some time by the longest unbroken sea beach in the world at Cox'S Bazar before heading into the tribal hilly region of the Bandarbans. Here you will spend two days exploring the countryside and local villages. Finally, head to Chittagong before returning to Dhaka for your departure flight.

Having recently experienced Bangladesh for ourselves, we highly recommend this tour. Our only advice - do it now, before tourism starts to really develop and the adventure becomes less authentic.
